FYI, I have goats at my Meyer lemon farm; and their all time favorite food is Meyer lemon trees. Deer and goats have very similar diet habits. My goats do not eat any of my 15 or 20 other citrus varieties... only the Meyers.

Consider yourself (and your Meyers) lucky. The deer thrashed my variegated Pink Eureka Lemon
with their antlers and broke off entire branches in the ugliest, rudest way possible...and yet
it, too, will re-grow and balance out again in time. Just a temporary set-back.

I think the goats prefer the Meyers because the leaves are sweeter; it is the same as the rind of the Meyer fruit... it is not bitter like most citrus. At the Fruit Logistica fair in Berlin last year, everyone was peeling my Meyers and walking around sucking on the peels.

Unless you are having venison for dinner you'd better block the next attack.

I have a calamondin tree and the deer ate 25% of the leaves. It is Spring here in FL. I think I should not cut the branches. I put the small tree in a big pot and put it on my patio where deer cannot get it. My brother gave it to me when he moved to NV. I gave a light fertilizer and water.

Unfortunately, I think the leaves of Meyer lemons may be a little more mild and tasty to deer than orange or grapefruit leaves.

Citrus leaves definitely are not a preferred food of deer, but they will eat them if they are hungry and there's not many alternatives around. Deer will also be more likely to avoid it if they have learned to recognize citrus leaves and decided they don't like it. Deer will typically go after the newest small tender leaves when they do eat it.
