What lemons do you grow and why did you pick that variety? Is there one you hope to add or wish you had picked instead?

We have a fairly big lot so I can put in a variety of trees, all kept smaller.

So far we have Meyers, Variegated Pink, Monachello (new this spring) and a couple of sad older Eurekas. I am thinking of pushing over one sad Eureka-it is so bad I could push it over right now. That just leaves the other sad Eureka growing in the shade of a neighbors tree.

I can add a tree to my citrus hedge and am thinking of a lemon.

In the past Costco has had "Santa Teresa" Italian, Lisbon and Eureka(?)

Would love to hear what you planted and like to use.

I grow Improved Meyer, some unknown Italian lemon, and Santa Teresa Femminello. If you can snag a Santa Teresa, I would recommend this cultivar. It has a very high oil content in the skin, which is why it's used in Italy to make Limoncello. I use my Meyer lemons currently to make Limoncello, but as my two Santa Teresas mature, we'll be making Limoncello from both. Lisbon is very similar to Eureka, and wickedly thorny.

I will look for that Santa Teresa. I take it cooking with the zest of this lemon will have more zing than the Improved Meyers?

It will have a different accent than Meyer lemons. Meyer's are good for a more subtle flavor. Santa Teresa definitely will give you an intense, delicious lemon flavor. Outstanding lemon, and the only grower propagating Santa Teresa Femminello is one of my favorite growers, Willits & Newcomb. One of the cultivars that warrants more than one spot in my yard (3 - one in-ground, two in containers to "corral" the growth, it is a very precocious tree).
