I don't know about 'polyembryonic', but I've read that Key Limes DO come true from seed (as compared to Persian limes).

If a citrus seed is monoembyronic, it just means they create one embryo (which may or may not be true).

But in Key Lime's case, I've read they DO come true, so you should be OK, if that is what you are looking for.

At least that is my understanding.

They should be polyembryonic but more importantly, they are nucellar (clone) embryonic. I would just let them grow. Chances are excellent they're clones. Limes are probably the fastest citrus cultivar to fruit as a seedling - about 2 years.

Likely the conditions of germination favored only the strongest embryo, which would probably be the clone.

I have the same question, looking for a definitive answer. Germinated a few Key Lime seeds, now I have 3 seedlings but none were polyembryonic. Will they grow true to type ?

I grew 2 from seed and they yielded fruit and are true to type.

i have the big key limes but I cut the tree down so much to get low growth that I won't get lines for at least a year probably two.

In some countries Key Limes are the standard lemons, used for anything from seasoning to lemon juice.

Bearss lime is a nice lime and it's great that it's large and seedless. But the Key Lime has that super strong LIME flavor and scent. Just like the lime popsicle and lollipops from your childhood. No other citrus is SO true lime flavor. It's what they make Rose's Lime Syrup with.

They are small but you get a ton of them, even when the tree is young.

I absolutely LOVE Key lime pie! It is not the same with regular limes.

Key limes are amazing. My tree has probably over a thousand key limes set & growing. They're sooooo tasty, they go on everything. Drinks, salads of all sorts, pies, cakes, good for jelly, some curries, salsas, Mexican & Carribbean food in general, etc...

The trees are very vigorous, hope yours do well op.

That's awesome! I can't wait until mine is that large! The OP has a while to go, but Key limes are actually the quickest to fruit from seed, only 4 to 6 years on average.

I've seen that recipe Barb! I can't wait to make it! I have an awesome pie recipe from a famous restaurant in Savannah GA....not too sweet...just perfect! I make it often.
