Raised Bed Citrus Trees

Here's a couple of photos of some of my citrus trees here in south Orange County, CA. As you can see they are growing in a raised bed. There are six groups of 3 totaling 18 different cultivars from Tangerines and Oranges to Grapefruit hybrids. This is the "3 trees in one hole" method I like to use for all of my fruit trees from Cherimoyas to Apricots. It allows you to get a lot of fruit from a small space.

These trees started out as 5 gallon or smaller size and have really taken off in only a year and a half. Some are dwarfs and some are standards. I couldn't find dwarfs for all the cultivars I wanted. They seem to grow well in the sandy loam I filled the 6' by 25' bed with. They are watered with a bubbler type sprinkler head located in the center of each of the 3 tree group.

The second photo shows how close together the three trees are planted.

(The structure behind the trees is my greenhouse covered with shade cloth.)
