Well, you're transplanting during a very slow/no grow time with our very cool temps right now. I think you'd have better success if you did this in Feb/March, but, if your chickens are at risk for being poached by a bobcat, you don't really have much choice. I would try to take as much of a rootball as you possibly can, to do the least amount of disruption to the rootball. Enlist the assistance of someone to help you, wrap in burlap and hand-carry it over to the new location, and carefully set it into the hole, trying to hold the root ball, and not by the trunk (which can break tender feeder roots). Fertilize with a low nitrogen, water soluble fertilizer to stimulate root growth and not foliage growth.

I hope I only need to move the one finger lime. The bobcat is bold and is hunting mid day in the yard. Jumped the fence 5 feet from my 91 year old mom off the street on Sunday at 2:30 to grab a hen with me on the other side of the yard watching for him The short time run is very secure but never intended for 24/7/365 living

OMG. That is crazy bold of a bobcat, which are usually very shy animals. We have a resident bobcat we see now and then. It did jump into my next door neighbor's front yard, jumped out and ran through the front of my yard. My dogs went berserk. My gosh. We can't have chickens with our HOA, although I'd LOVE to have them. No roosters, just chickens. Just afraid of the rat and coyote (and now bobcat, apparently) attraction. Post a photo of your finished run, I'd love to see it.
