I am a big fan of Four Wind Growers and by no means am I blaming them for the bugs. Could have come from the local store I purchased it from. But at the end of the day, this tree is still very much returnable. So what do you guys think?

I'd treat it with a systemic and or topical neem oil to be safe and keep the tree. It is nice looking.

Aphids. Just inspect and squish A spray or two of horticultural oil should kill off any eggs.

i would tell the seller.. he is selling infected stock.. and ask him what he is going to do about it ...

and if he said nothing.. i would turn him into the county horticultural agent.. via the Ag office ...

NEVER use a systemic on something you might eat ...

especially on something that can be sprayed off with a hand squirt bottle of water ...

I'm with hoovb, just aphids, they could have come from anywhere, not necessarily the growers fault. Easy to treat on a plant that size. I would recommend squishing, or spraying them off with a jet of water. A cotton swab with alcohol should take care of eggs. Systemic is overkill.
I would not say it is 'infected', it just has some aphids. It looks pretty good to me.

Me, too. Aphids are easy to get rid of. Just blast them off with a strong jet of water, and then spray your tree with insecticidal soap. It is a very nice tree, I'd just treat and enjoy.

If the tree was sitting at a nursery, it can happen, even under the best of care. I was at one of our best nurseries this weekend buying some mistletoe to make a mistletoe ball. Fortunately, they had a giant stock of it sitting in their checkout area. Part of it was infected with cotton cushiony scale. I pointed that out to the checker, and told her they most certainly did not want that spreading to their stock! She was horrified, and cut out all the infected pieces and tied them up in a plastic bag and threw it out!

A few aphids will be the least of your citrus bug problems!

I guess I was also concerned about the few large very soft white as snow bugs I pulled off. They were attached to tree at the branch creases (where branches met trunk)

I will spray with soap tonight and give it a few days and then re-inspect. I suppose I should do all my citrus since I placed this new one right next to the rest of them for a few days before inspecting

Well, that sounds like cottony cushion scale, which might require a hort oil to kill. Look for more. And, take photos of those bugs for use to ID for you. So, treat that accordingly, as there are probably nymphs or larvae of that pest still hanging around.

Stick, keep your eyes open for more of the white 'bugs' so that you can take a picture. I suspect cottony cushion scale, too, but am only speculating.

I second Patty's recommendation about the horticultural oil. Oil applications can help control spider mites, scale insects, aphids, whitefly nymphs, and the eggs of all those mentioned.

But you must read and follow the directions for the product you buy.
