GARDENING AND LANDSCAPINGCitrus 101: Start Your Own Backyard Orchard
This Earth Day Weekend, Add Some Green, Style and Deliciousness to Your Landscape
Full StoryAt least, a little? I grew 32 pummelo trees from seed over the past year and a few days ago I decided upon discarding the smallest, weakest ones. I am in North Idaho where it has gotten into the teens temperature wise. I set the little, weak ones outside to die and 3 days later they are still alive! Only some of them are wilting, others look just the same, like they could do this all the time. This is through snow, heavy COLD rain, more snow, wind, etc. and on the north side of the house in North Idaho! I thought pummelos were supposed to be amongst the most tender citrus? Granted, I did put them out there nearly desert-dry, could this have contributed? I would've expected black die-back almost immediately, like my pineapple sage. One whiff of frost and that thing was a slimy black pile.
Is this normal, do citrus normally look healthy right up until the end?
Just curious,
Ellie
