Mike, citrus do not need to be pollinated to produce fruit. Almost all citrus are parthenocarpic. So, no need to do that :-) And, it is quite normal for citrus to drop at the pea sized stage. Citrus will set much more fruit than they can actually support. So, fruit drop, especially with young trees is normal. A young tree may drop off of its fruit the first year or two. It would help if you could post photos of your trees, so we can make sure this is a normal occurrence, or due to other factors (that we cannot see).

I won't be needing to upload any photos. Your answer led opened the door for me and I now realize that there is nothing wrong with my young trees.

The dropping of fruitlets has stopped and those that remain seem solidly attached and there are plenty of them.
