It appears that if we are lookig directly east that the area closer to the deck railing looks like it might work. The ohter location appears to be in too much shade but that might change during summer. The only good way to see is to plant it and see if it will do well there. If not then you could always move it later. Another option would be to pull the plant out away from the fence, make a planting bed there, and install a trellis in the bed so that it would reach the lower level of the tree branches. That way it should get enough light.

I've had a hard time growing a clematis really close to the tree if it is an old one. I finally moved my Abundance
to a site that has no competition and no shade and it does wonderfully.

We have cut down 3 large Silver Maples as they were about 40 years old and had scale. They were just too hard to get rid of when the spray can't reach the tops of the trees. Plus I didn't plant them and their root system was over taking our neighbor's yard space and my mine. I do miss the shade of one of them, but not everything else that goes with growing them.

Two of them were next to our irrigation pond, not sure if the first owners planted them or the ditch via seed from the Boise River.

I also don't think any clematis would do all that well there in such shade with that kind of root competition. You could set an obelisk forward a bit from the fence so the plant(s) would get some light, perhaps.
