Quite shaded is sort of vague. Is it bright shade? Is there any sun? Your courtyard garden looks fairly bright in the photo, but it's difficult to tell. In general, Clematis need at least 4 hours of good light to bloom well. There are some Clematis that will bloom in shadier conditions than others. I have a Guernsey Cream that gets very little direct sun, but gets some dappled sun and fairly bright indirect light. I am sure that it would bloom more in better light.

If you go down below the posting list on this forum's main page there's a search box. If you type in 'shade' you will get many threads where folks suggest Clematis that have done well for them in less than ideal light conditions. I'd give some of them a try and put the Clematis in the brightest area of your garden for the best flowers.

One of the most frequently recommended clematis for a shady location is C. armandii. This is a big, vigorous vine with evergreen foliage and a plethora of fragrant springtime flowers. Comes in both a pure white and a pale pink. Not the hardiest of clems, it is listed only to zone 7 and can experience some dieback in excessively cold weather -- 0-5F would certainly qualify but your setting looks like it would offer some degree of protection from the worst of the weather.

Thank you both for your replies. Sorry I havent responded sooner. I was looking at C armandii as well as Montana. How thick are the vines from Clematis? Also will it take long to in essence create a wall of it? Is it also possible to plant it will Jasminum Officinale and a climbing rose?
