Spiders and Clematis

Ok, I will start by saying this: I know that spiders can be beneficial in the garden.... But I cannot stand them! I know that they are there and I don't go looking for them but if one pops out and crawls towards me I will crush it with what ever is at hand. That being said, I am thinking of buying a Nelly Moser clematis and was wondering if having a clematis might invite more spiders into my garden.

I use to have a clematis in the house we rented when we were first married that the owner had planted that surrounded the mailbox. One day I went out to get the mail and could have sworn that I saw a giant spider jump on my arm from the mailbox. I looked all over myself but couldn't see anything and was convinced that I was just being paranoid. Dh arrived an hour later and casually mentioned that I had a spider on my back. Needless to say I am a bit more paranoid now about dealing with a clematis and wanted to know if Spiders tend to live in them more so than in other plants. Thanks!
