I just received a Wayside Farms Spring Catalog and saw a Princess Diana Clematis. It is very striking.
Has anyone grown this variety? Any tips or advice with it?
Thanks. |

| I have it, It is pretty but it has gotten mildew every year for me. I would not buy it from Wayside, they charge way too much for really small plants. |

| I also have it. It gets huge for me and blooms for a long time. No mildew here, but that usually isn't a problem for me anyway. I like it. |

This is great to know - thanks for the info. BTW - I agree about Wayside and their prices / sizes! |

| Ditto to it not being a stellar performer in my garden. Prone to mildew as well here as are many of the texensis hybrids except for Duchess of Albany (at least in my garden anyways). I agree with Wayside charging way to much for the size plants they ship. |

| I have Princess D on the corner of a porch getting morning sun, midday sun, and complete shade after 2:00 p.m. She has grown to 15 feet several years and remained healthy (and glorious with many gorgeous blooms)--until last summer when she died back with something nasty--mildew? wilt? Cornell spray has helped me with wilt on phlox--wonder if it would help on Diana. |

| Likely mildew, I'm not familiar with Cornell spray but a fungicide would help. I'm just too lazy to do it. I buy them then forget to use them. |

| Oops--I meant mildew on the phlox, of course. I'll try the Cornell formula on Diana--she's too wonderful to lose. |
