Sweet autumn is a species clematis, Polish Spirit is not. This means that if you get germinations on Polish Spirit they will not be genetically similar to the parent plant even though they may or may not look like the parent plant.

I can't tell you how long specifically it will take to germinate either seeds since I have never tried growing them specifically from seed but SAC use to volunteer itself in my garden all the time so it took from fall of one year to spring of the next to germinate.

Sweet Autumn Clematis are beautiful to look at & wonderful to smell, but realize that you're going to have volunteers everywhere if you don't prune it all before it goes to seed. It's very invasive! They also get very large (20-30')

I didnt know that, but I was planning on planting it in the yard where we would mow around it so I think that would keep it under control.

Sweet Autumn isn't invasive for everyone. I have not had a problem with it, but I am quite a bit more north.

I'm in zone 6b and I wish my Sweet Autumn had been generous with its seedlings.

I lost mine during the great Easter freeze (it had already pushed forth about 6 feet of growth that bleached out to white over the few cold days there were and it never recovered (and it was 5 years old at the time and huge).

I waited for it to return, but it never did. I'll replace it this year, but I just hope the one I get this time is as fragrant as the last one was. (and I'm not patient enough to wait til fall and hope the nursery I frequent will still have some in stock by then)

Chills, check back with me. I have a few seedlings that I have been trying to kill for several years and haven't gotten them yet. No need to purchase one of these if the two of mine that I have been spraying come back. All you have to do to keep these plants from reseeding is to cut them back by half when they are finishing up flowering. I learned this a little too late.
