Never had type IIs hold on to many dead leaves but I do tend to treat mine as type IIIs as far as pruning goes. Since you just moved it this past summer, it would be prudent to treat yours as a type II for at least this spring so the dead leaves will mostly be trimmed off when you prune it.

Perhaps someone who grows more type IIs and treats them as type IIs as far as pruning goes will have more info.

Mine never held on to their dead leaves before this year. Many of them did this year. I'm thinking it might be a fungal issue. Perhaps Gardengal knows. Mine had discolored leaves near the end of the season and she said it was fungal when someone else posted a photo of similar discoloration.
