Out of control Henryi

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone can help? I purchased 3 Henryi quite a few weeks back two of them (still in packaging I purchased them in) are fine, the other; Grew on its own out of the package and has flower buds on it!!. This mind you is in doors. I went ahead potted it and staked it, but, is growing very tall 2 1/2' . The others very little green growth. Can I cut this back as it is growing? or will this ruin it for spring planting?

Cutting back a clematis, especially a smaller one that is not yet planted, is never a bad thing. I recommend treating it as a type III clematis the first and possibly second year in the ground to allow its roots to get established.

Thanks for the info nck. I cut it back and it seems to be doing fine!! Just didnt want to kill it!! :)
