Please help me make a Clematis pruning choice

We have a combination of four year old "Sunset" and "Polish Spirit" clematis and an evergreen honeysuckle growing on our trellis. There are large bare spots on the trellis that we wish to have fill in with growth. I'm uncertain if pruning back the clematis would achieve that goal or not. Can someone with more knowledge than I please help me with this choice?

Dave..Clematis "Polish Spirit" is a pruning group 3 and should be hard pruned every early spring!..for it blooms on the new vines grown during the season..I would hard prune both..even tho "Sunset" is a pruning group 2 to help them send out more vines from the soil and thicken up...and don't forget to fertilize as they are heavy feeders...Jeanne

Yes, pruning would help. The reason all the growth is clustered at the top is because they haven't been pruned. I know nothing about honeysuckle but the Clematis should be whacked to a foot or so. Polish Spirit needs this every year.
