Should I move or protect my clematis

Hi all-

I have a 5 year old clematis that finally come into her own last year ... lots of lovely blooms and strong healthy stems. This year we have to build up the soil around our basement to prevent water seeping in ... the tragedy is that the clematis (and many other perennials are going to have a load of dirt dumped on them. :-(

Should I move the clematis to a spot just south east of the current place (will have to remove grass, so worry about the nitrogen) or would it be safer to build a small bottomless drum around it? The dirt will be about a foot up from where the crown is currently ...)

I live in zone 4 and the ground is still frozen ... I would do the moving in around 2 weeks if we don't have another freeze (though you never can determine the weather here until mid may...)

Your advice is very appreciated.

Alex
