| I have three brand new Etoile Violette. I have planted them with climing roses. Should I train the clematis horizontially, like the roses? Does doing so increase bloom? Or should I just keep spreading out the vines in a more or less fan shape?

| You don't have to worry about training horizontally like the roses. Clems tend to go up as far as they can and then flop back down onto themselves. |

| Just realize that Polish Spirit can become a monster. Hope you gave them plenty of room to spread out. I wouldn't see why whether they would grow vertically or horizontally would affect the bloom intensity. |
