Bad Henryii

I planted Henryii a few years ago. Every year there was only one or two scrawny shoots. This year was no different, so yesterday I dug it up. I apologize for not having photos to show you, I thought about it, but I hate my camera and taking pictures with it frustrates me. Anyway, there was no soil right underneath the crown, instead there was about an inch thick of packed vermiculite from the original nursery potting soil. In order to get it out, I had to remove the remaining fabric that from when it was just a plug. That fabric is suppose to decay, but it doesn't decay fast enough IMO. Also, some of the roots were entangled in that fabric (or whatever it's called) and at least a third of the roots were circling around about an inch or two below the crown creating a little pocket to trap the vermiculite.
So from now on, I will bareroot all my clematis to remove all foreign matter.
Henryii is now planted in an out of the way place. He has until next year or he's outta here.
