My first clematis...

Hello everybody,

I have recently moved to East Tennessee and have been admiring the clematis that I see growing around here. I am not familiar with clematis, having lived in hotter climates before. I saw one blooming at a nursery last fall and bought it on impulse. The variety is "Mrs N. Thompson" and the bloom was beautiful.

Now, here is where I need some advise. I built a trellis about 3 or 4 feet wide (to hide my garbage can) and would like to train this clematis on the trellis. Would you suggest planting more than one? I suppose a different variety would be ok if the pruning requirements match up?

Do I need to plant at the same depth it is growing in the one gallon bucket?

Any advise would sure be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!!
