Type 2 Clematis cuttings

I posted this elsewhere, on second thought I should have posted it here. I want to cut this clematis down right after flowering so layering is not in the picture.

I'm going to attempt to do a few Clematis cuttings this summer, is the best medium for rooting sand? Is it wise to seal the top cut above the leaves with a drop of white glue?

I've only rooted one clematis before, a piece of Montana Rubens which I stuck in a pop can full of water and promptly forgot about it. When I tried pulling it out of the can which was full of roots it wouldn't budge, had to cut the lid to get it out. Anybody done these with success, I heard the type 2's can be persnickety.
