Can't tell you the exact cultivar - absolutely too many to choose from - but it is a large flowered hybrid and if blooming now, in pruning group 2. Group 3's bloom later and group 1's do not include any LFH's - only species clems.

Pruning group 2 clems do not require much pruning but if desired, they can be hard pruned like group 3's to simplify pruning chores. This just tends to push back the bloom season a few weeks.

Thanks! Being a novice with clematis, I appreciate the good advice about pruning. Since I now do not need to worry about pruning, I will just enjoy the "bonus" bloom.
I think it is quite pretty especially since it came so early in a somewhat barren (of blooms) garden bed.

I'm still a newbie, but it looks a lot like my H.F. Young blooms. Someone with more experience can probably give you a more sure identification.

There are more than 200 different blue/lavender flowered LFH's included in pruning group 2......it would take much more than one small photo to accurately ID :-)

'H.F. Young' is a common lavender large flowering hybrid but it isn't the only lavender large flowering hybrid...:)

There are a lot of Lavender flowering clematis, but yours is very like my HF Young.
