| Hi everyone!
I need some advise, and I figured this was the best place to ask. Most of my yard is part shade, part sun, but I have managed to sneak in a dozen or so clematis which do ok, but not great, with the shade. I have fallen in love with pictures of Duchess of Albany and Princess Diana. I can only fit one in. It will be in about 5 hours of sun a day. Which one will do better? How are they different? The pictures seem very similar. Any recommendations? Thanks! Dorothy |

| Dorothy, Princess Diana is more pink in color than Duchess of Albany. In my garden, the Duchess of Albany is the winner hands down for the vigorousness of the vine and the number of blooms. As was discussed in an earlier thread, there seems to be differences in the vigorousness of the two vines based on zones. The parentage of DofA is texensis X Star of India (both type III clematis) whereas that of PD is Bees Jubilee X texensis (a type II and a type III). If the type IIs do well in your garden, then PD might be a more vigorous vine. If the type IIIs do better, then DofA might be more vigorous. This is based on my observations that the type IIs tend to do better in more moderate climates with lower summer heat and humidity, whereas the type IIIs tend to do better in the hotter and more humid zones. |

| Miguel..I planted both "PD" and "DOA" in my gardens last fall...so I'll anxiously await to see if I have the same results as you do here in Texas...seems like clematis perform very similar in our zones...My "Bees Jubilee" is very vigorous here..I have two of her..hmmmm..I can see mixing a 2 & 3 might make a big difference ...Jeanne |

| Jeanne the only type II that is really vigorous in my garden is Sunset and she was and has been treated as a type III since I got her since she was supposed to be Margot Koster. Will be anxious to see how your PD and DoA perform. |
