My jackmanii changed direction

My 12 year old Jackmanii was a spectacular sight when in full bloom. But the last 2 years when he bloomed, it was not a huge mass of color as before. When I took a closer look I saw that the vines began growing on the west side of the trellis but as they got taller they went through the trellis and stayed on the east side. So when he bloomed, the bulk of the flowers were on the back of the trellis, out of sight. Then I realized that this began happening around the same time that my neighbor cut down their pine trees. Unlike before, he now gets early morning sun and the vines are weaving through the trellis to enjoy it.
