Alright now the pressure is really on! I'd like to get my Clematis from garden crossing nursery because they're having a sale this weekend. What two should I get?

Go with group 3 Clematis. They are prolific bloomers, they stay neat after the bloom is over.
'Galore' and 'Huldine' are terrific bloomers and will create a nice contrast. 'Jackmanii Superba', 'Mme. Julia Correvon', 'Warsaw Nike' are other good choice for a dark variety. Most people on this forum agree that 'Huldine' is the best white variety.

And yes, those morning glories can be invasive....

Venosa Violacea, Ville de Lyon, Petit Faucon and Prince Charles are good ones too.

The two yellows, tangutica and My Angel will swamp your arbor, I'd avoid them.

Corpsman Cooper, I'm in Ocala and love Venosa Violacea. This is its second year. I don't think it bloomed at all last year. The bloom lasted about a month (I think). I'm assuming it will bloom again later in the year. I'm new to clematis. I know enough to get viticella and texensis types since I'm in hot Florida, although the texensis have not bloomed for me yet. Henryi has also done well - even bloomed its first year. I mistakenly pruned him like a Type 3 this spring, forgetting that he's a Type 2, but he bloomed anyway and is blooming again now.

All new Clematis should be pruned like type IIIs their first couple of years to get them off to a good start.

In warmer zones many prune all like type IIIs because there is plenty of time to get blooms from them.

Pruning helps Clematis, never hurts them, you can't kill one by pruning it "wrong"
