I still think that the layering is the best and the easiest method for regular gardeners. I've never thought about sinking a pot for layering though. Seems to be a good idea.

I have been layering by sinking pots in the ground and can report that it does work. I would recommend putting something (like a brick) on top of the soil in the pot to keep the darn squirrels from digging around in there and killing the vine.
