perhaps I should add that the trellis is free-standing in the garden on a north-south line, so the plants get plenty of sun from east, south, and west.

There are so many clematis that are available in Europe that are not available in the US.

If I were you, I'd plan a road trip to Germany to visit F.M. Westphal so you can see many clematis in bloom. His garden is north of Hamburg, open to visitors and, of course, he sells clematis. The displays are at their best between June and August. To quote from their catalog: "It is the season when you can come and gather numerous ideas and suggestions for putting to use in your own garden- there are plenty of exciting examples of where to plant which clematis for the best results in your garden."

If you go, take pictures for me. lol

Thanks for all the suggestions! And thanks janetpetiole for the tip. I checked their website and I will definitely get the catalog! Will have to make a trip to Hamburg, though, it would be great to see all those different clematis in bloom.

I went to a local nursery today, they only had Betty Corning, the President, and Blue Angel to choose from in the blue section. But then they had Niobe and Pink Fantasy, both in full bloom, standing right next to each other. OMG what a sight!!! Both so beautiful in their own - and together? Absolutely stunning! I just lost my breath, so I had to get them both. Now I have to figure out where to put them.

So many beautiful clematis, I can see how this can turn into an addiction...

Your local nurseries have a limited selection just like the nurseries here.

However, I got Hagely Hybrid today in a large pot full of roots for a fair price.
