pink aplina buds did not open

My pink aplina, 'Willy', I think, set buds as usual, but have failed to open and appear dried out. We had a cold snap in late March or early April, which may have damaged the buds. Cutting through some upper stems show "green" inside. Should I prune and how? I've read not to prune the woody lower stems. Would appreciate help. Thanks

Are the plants putting out foliage on the stems where the dried out buds are?? If so, I would leave them alone and see what happens. I can only surmise that the cold temps. might have nipped your buds and that is what caused them not to continue maturing and eventually flowering.

There is no green foliage anywhere on the vine. Its about 6 years old and has been happy in its location.

I put a good shovel full of mushroom compost around it and will just wait!

My only other clematis - Guernsey Cream - on the west side of the house is about to open with an amazing number of blooms.
