Planting clematis in bloom

Yesterday at a local nursery I found a lovely Ice Blue in a 2.6-qt pot to replace the one I recently drowned -- on sale, no less. (For Denver-area locals, it was at the Westminster O'Toole's that recently was mentioned in this forum. They still have a large selection, and the sale runs indefinitely. I paid $6.50)

In reviewing my info on how to plant, I came across one source that advocates cutting back by half when you plant, but says if the vine's in flower and you want to enjoy the blooms, keep it in the pot until it's done blooming and then plant and snip. We've got a little run of cooler weather right now and I'd love to plant her immediately without sacrificing the flowers. Would that really make a big difference in her future development? I would definitely cut her back post-bloom.
