So I bought a clematis labeled 'Fireworks'. (photo)

Obviously, it is not. Can anyone identify it? It came from Lowe's last year in one of those little cardboard boxes. I got it for a buck. I'm not proud.

The flowers are small, about 2" across. The vine has reached at least 5' since I cut it back in late winter. Any clues?

Thanks.

Looks like Polish Spirit or Etoile Violette.

Both type III viticellas. It's going to get a lot bigger. :)

I believe it looks more like Etoile Violette. Thanks.

It's got plenty of room to grow.

wow, is your etoile violette already blooming? It's beautiful! I bought mine last spring and now it's got 5 stems, but they are only about 7". I can't wait to see it bloom.

This is my first year growing these kinds of clematis. I picked them up on clearance. My HF Young has already bloomed and is putting out new growth. Should I prune it back?

I would pinch out the growing tips unless you've got some long scraggly growth which I would prune back.

Here is a photo of Clematis 'Fireworks'.

I've seen people say they hate to buy Clematis at the big box stores because they seem to be mislabeled so often.
