Group planting question

I have a Henryi clem that I just planted this week. I want a "true red" (I say that tongue in cheek lol) large flowering clem to go with it. I was thinking Earnest Markham. But, Henryi is a group 2, and EM is a group 2 or 3. Do you think these two can be paired, pruning wise? Or will pruning be a hassle. I want to treat EM as both, and prune 1/2 of it as a group 3 and half as a group 2 for a longer bloomtime.
