Question about prune newly planted group 2 clematis

Dear everyone,

I got quite a few clematis this year, but, most of them have more than 5 stems, some even more than 10 stems coming out from base. My question is , do I still have to follow the rule that "for whatever kind of new planted clematis, you should cut back them to about 1 feet high next year"? However, based on what I know, this rule might only apply to some clematis that doesn't have enough stems (like less 4).

What should I do next year for my group 2 clematises? Thanks a lot!
Andy
