Clematis Blooms curling?

My new clematis has lots of blooms, they are dark pink with a lighter stripe down the center. They open but the edges are curled in, so they don,t fully show the bloom and now I noticed the some of the lower leaves are turning brown. Are weather has been quite cold so far this year. We are on the west coast on vancouver Island, would that have anything to do with it? Help Lynda

Usually lower leaves turning brown on type II Clematis is lack of water but that should not be a problem for you this year! I know you've gotten as much rain as I have being so close.

It may just be that variety. Some really want to have bare legs or it may be fungus. I've got fungus on some of mine.
