Help..off to the nursery

I am off to the garden center today. I LOVE clematis, and have never had any. I am in Ma., zone 5. What should I look for? Any advice before I go? Should I grow in pot awhile and then put in ground? Is sun ideal? Morning, afternoon? Thank you for any help you can give.

Many Clematis are too big for pots and should be planted.

Clematis want sun but some can take partial sun.

Do you have a trellis or arbor or obelisk for the vine to grow on or are you planning on growing it over a shrub or tree?

Clematis come in sizes from one foot tall to thirty feet tall.

Best to buy one that will fit the space you have for it.

So excited. Bought my first Clematis today. The name is Cardynal Wysynski. It says it will bloom June-Sept. I sure hope so. Grows 8-10 tall. I did get an obelisk also.
I hope I have good luck with it.
