This is my Alba Luxurians' second year in the ground. She has bountiful foliage that looks wonderfully healthy. But now she's budding, and all the buds are wilting. The stem looks completely healthy below the wilted bud.
Right next to AL, Margot Koster and Sizaia Ptitsa, the earliest clems in my garden, are a sheet of flowers. All of these experience some root competition from two nearby spruces. But I'm careful to give them extra water. It hasn't been much of an issue so far this year as we've had good rainfall. But my practice is to drip water each clematis in that area on the fourth dry day.
Does this bud wilt sound like anything you've experienced? Too much or too little water? Too much or too little rose food (I fed alternate weeks in April, then stopped in May when bud formation began). I'm stumped. Would appreciate help.
