Which One (small white?)

This clematis is growing at a client's home in Philadelphia. It is growing in significant shade and the flowers were small and white & very similar to the flowers of C. terniflora & C. Virginiana. While I remember the flowers from last spring, I missed them this year, so don't remember exactly when it bloomed, though, from the look of the seedheads, I'd guess several weeks ago (right?)

I don't believe it's been pruned at all in the last couple of years, since the client moved to this house. I asked her if she knew which one it was and she said "oh, that's a wild clematis" but she didn't plant it.

Sorry to not have a picture of the flower, I know that would help, but it did look very much like sweet autumn flowers.

Too early for SAC to bloom. Could be some montana Clematis.

Is it a vining or non-vining clematis? A shorter plant? My recta finished blooming, I deadheaded it so it should rebloom soon. Has small white flowers. Look at "recta" on "Clematis on the Web" as a possibility.

Ugh. I thought I posted photos. Be right back. Definitely not Sweet Autumn, not C. virginiana and not Montana. Not recta since it is a vining clematis. Here are the photos:

Luvmyclematis - I keep going back to your suggestion of recta. The images do look very, very similar. What's making me doubt it is that the leaf axils were definitely twining around the metal support. Does recta climb by that method at all? This clematis is also growing in fairly dense shade. Any idea if recta would survive & flower in the shade?
