| I bought a "jackmanii" (from a big box store) whose now-open flowers look just like my etoile violette, as do its leaves. i went today to check at a big nursery, and their jackmanii flowers were larger and brighter in colour and the leaves were different. Probably mislabled. Then I went to a friend's who has a large garden. She said she has one jackmanii here, another there, yet another.... but they all had small very dark purple flowers. Do dealers often mislabel whole batches? does etoile violette often get substituted like this?
I am curious to learn if anyone else has had similar experiences. Thanks! |

| All I can say is I always got what I expected. I have a half-dozen Jackmani--some bought different years, and possibly from different garden centers. They all came out looking about the same--larger flowers. I also ordered online 1 etoile violette. It looks right to me--somewhat smaller flower and leaf, wider spaces between blooms, etc. On the other hand, many people buy them when they are not in bloom, so I wouldn't be surprised sometimes if they get a mislabled one. I'm still wondering about the difference between a regular Jackmani and the so-called "improved" Jackmani Superba. Have no idea which I may have. It will be interesting to hear what others have to say. Kate |

| Mislabeling is fairly common, especially with big box stores. |

| You will be better off with Etoile Violette. It is much more resistant to Clematis Wilt. |
