Do you know the name of the clematis? Sometimes they take a while to get established. As long as it's still alive, I would just wait and see.

IME most clematis spend a good chunk of their energy the first year establishing roots, and so you see less top growth than with many other plants. Particularly since this is newly planted, give it time.

Thanks for the advice! I do not have the names unfortunately. Attached is a pic of the recently planted one (pic had a white flower). The same thing happened to my first ever clematis last year, and this year it is flourishing. Patience it is!

Yup. Just check the soil moisture often so it doesn't dry out.
