trimming back?

I have several different clematis growing up my antenna tower, I think maybe 3, Jackmani, another smaller purple, and Sweet Autumn.

As there was a lot of dead foliage last season, I didn't prune a thing this spring. Wondering, if I trim all of them down this fall, will I have to wait over a year for Sweet Autumn to come back with vigor?

I know what I love, and it is clematis, but am unsure how to care for them, except keep roots cool, and fertilize heavily.

Thanks to all.
