wilting arms

I've noticed something with my snow queen. The wrapping tendrils (sorry, I don't know the proper nomenclature) often tend to wilt the higher they get up from the ground. Is this normal? Is it due to dryness as the vines get farther from the roots(the ground around it has been mulched and is damp)? Could it be the heat radiating from the vinyl siding roasting the tender shoots?

I appreciate replies.

Mine do this. I believe it is because they are farther away from the roots. I do not have vinyl siding.
