My first ever bloom - Venosa Violacea

So back in March I believe, I impulse bought a bagged root for this Clematis, as I had admired the beautiful flowers on our neighbors fence and was pretty sure it was a Clematis.

Got it planted outside in late April I think, and was too naive to know I should have cut back the lone vine early on to encourage more vines to start.

However, I am just happy it bloomed at all! I thought it may not do anything this year. I planned to train it into the horrible ivy growing on the fence and it is just grabbing onto it's first ivy stems.

I can't wait for next year now! I still have the Claire de Lune to anticipate (not so sure it will bloom as it gets too much shade I think), as well as the mystery Clem that sprouted from the yard against the neighbor's foundation and has wound itself onto some low hanging wires (i think unused phone wire).
