Yes, it has happened to me a couple of times. I now have 2 of General Sikorski, which I wouldn't mind except I'm running out of room. I also just found out I have another Jackmanii instead of Pink Champagne or Vino. That means I have 3 Jackmanii, and I don't even want one.

It has always seemed to me that clematis are the most frequently mis-labeled plants I buy. I've gotten some wrong roses and coreopsis, but the number of wrong clematis I've received trumps them all (Of course, I have more clematis than those other plants, but still). I have a Josephine I never ordered, plus one mystery one I've never been able to identify. Good thing I like almost every one of them except the Josephine, and she grows so well I can't bear to dig her up.

I have not had the problem with Clematis but have with many other plants. I do buy in bloom especially from big box stores or discount outlets. I won't buy bulbs from them at all anymore after the huge number of mislabled but I got mislabled from Brent & Becky's too...argh....

Ok, I think I have one clue why some clematis are not identifed correctly. The wind was blowing really hard this afternoon and when I came out of the store I noticed some clematis pots were blown over and one of the identifying markers was on the ground so I handed it to the clerk and as I was walking away I noticed she stuck in one of the pots at the other end of a row.
