Can I grow a Clementis with babying?

I live in a harsh environment (desert with regular high winds sometimes gusts of 70 mph, summers with months of triple digits during the day, winters with nights in the teens followed by days in the 60s and dry air year around). I do have several micro-climates on my property with shade, misters, wind blocks, etc. What could I do (if anything) to make a clemntis happy?

There are Clematis that should do fine for you. The Texensis group and the Viticella group are the two I would start with.

You might want to try planting the clematis in a pot, at least 18" across, larger would be better, then burry it. That way, you will be able to keep the supplemental water and fertilizer near the roots.
