SAC is a twenty foot vine. Keep that in mind when you plant one. Needs a BIG sturdy trellis.

How true! It does need a very sturdy, big trellis. Mine is one year old (this was it's first spring and summer here) and is already about 20 to 30 tall! I have mine growing up and through a large hedge.
I will post a pic when it blooms. It is loaded with buds now and I can't wait to see the sight! :)

Looks like a good spot for your butterfly bush, Brad. I mulch mine well to help keep them moist. I have Pink Delight which is 13 years old and a bluish purple one that I winter sowed about 5 years ago. I deadhead the blossoms to prolong blooming. Also have a seedling of Miss Ruby and several from a mixed varieties seed packet that I ws in 2010. Wondering which colors I will get from them?

Sounds like your sweet autumn is doing well, kentstar. I love the fragrance of this fall clematis and had one for several years. Though I've had success with other clematis sweet autumn keeps dying on me. I'm looking for another plant this fall and will try it again.

Hmm, guess I'll have to choose another vine for this location! As for my butterfly bush, it's doing great right now! We'll be transplanting it soon and I hope it survives!

Kentstar, yes please do post a picture of your sweet autumn clematis when it blooms! Like mnwsgal, the one I planted last year didn't come up :(.

Mnwsgal, I'll be getting seeds of butterfly bush to winter sow this year and I'll be sharing with friends since I already have mine. The only thing I can say about BB is that everyone should have one! Perhaps my favorite perennial of all! I deadhead the blossoms on mine too and this is one I got at Wal-Mart for $6! I like the fragrance too!
