Clematis turning dry and brown - afraid it will die

All-I need your help.

I am an absolute novice to gardening and received a housewarming clematis last summer when I bought my first home. I believe it is a Cezanne and has purple flowers.

I planted it in a pot and it did very well all summer long. Then this summer it turned dry and brown. Some leaves have white spots and some have some very dark buggy looking flecks in the back. One lonely flower on the entire plant.

It gets full southern sun in the day. I live in Seattle so it's not that hot.

THere is a little bit of new growth on one side. What am I doing wrong? Is it too late to save it?

Heather
