Slow to grow but won't bloom

I have a Clematis on a wall with three other varieties. This one was planted 3 years ago with the others and just this year has decided to grow and grow! We have had an ideal summer with lots of rain but I keep waiting for it to bloom and it doesn't look like it plans to.

I don't even remember the variety since I thought long ago it was dead. I think it is white but not sure. The foliage is very lush and very healthy but it sure would be nice to see a flower before the season is over!

RE: Slow to grow but won't bloom

Sweet Autumn clematis (C. terniflora) blooms in August and September and has white flowers, so perhaps that is what you have and it just isn't blooming yet. Can you post a photo of the leaves, and perhaps then it can be IDed in at least a general fashion.

RE: Slow to grow but won't bloom

I have a white, Gillian Blades, that is about five years old. It also grew well and looks healthy but has had no blooms. Other years it bloomed in the spring. Hopefully it is just an off year for this clematis which is one of a multitude of clems I grow on my neighbors chain link fence.

My Sweet Autumn generally blooms late September/early October.
