The close ups are of Lasurstern and Daniel Deronda growing together.

The clematis in the fence are Perle d'Azur, Victoria, Emilia Plater, Blekitny Aniol and a first year Vyvyan Pennell and Lasurstern.

A BIG Thank You to all who helped me figure out how to post my pics- especially Tanya.

Beautiful clematis!!! What is the name of the clematis you are holding?

Thank you. Jane

RE: clematis garden pics

OH my god! I wish mine looked like yours! Absolutely lovely! A beautiful job on your yard. How old are the big ones there? Mine are all first and second year, so are still sleeping and creeping really slowly. :(

 o
RE: clematis garden pics

Wow, the best thing ever to do with a wooden fence!

So lush and healthy.

 o
RE: clematis garden pics

Wow!!! Gorgeous! Congrats on learning how to post your pictures, we can all enjoy your efforts.

RE: clematis garden pics

I'm so jealous of that lush garden. Mine is fried from record heat and neighbor's tree roots sucking every drop of moisture from the soil no matter how much I water. Earwigs and root weevils have all but destroyed many of my Clems too. Jealous, Jealous, Jealous.

RE: clematis garden pics

Jane, the clematis I'm holding is Lasurstern.

kentstar, the big ones are 4 years old. all of the others are older with a few new additions this year and last. i've been hooked on clematis since 1990.

RE: clematis garden pics

Buyorsell, I can relate....my neighbour let ANOTHER Norway Maple seedling grow into a 30 foot (so far) monster, and planted a pine tree, now huge, right against my fence, beside the mature (unknown name) tree already in the corner. All this in a yard no bigger than 20' x 30'! I'm watching everything shrivel before my very eyes, even with copious amounts of water. I'm very thankful I'm not on a water meter...

RE: clematis garden pics

Really lovely garden. Definitely worth the effort it took to get your photos posted. :)

The transition from your home to the wall is a fantastic way to soften that corner.

RE: clematis garden pics

Georgious pictures, what a beautiful sight.

RE: clematis garden pics

Oh lordy. This is what my back yard wants to be when it grows up.

RE: clematis garden pics

Wonderful fence of clematis. I can feel for those of you that have neighbors large trees sucking up all the moisture in your gardens... besides the fact that all the roots spreading to your nice gardens. I blamed the fact that the clems nearest the trees that overhang my fence by at least 8 feet were doing poorly because of the trees blocking the sun, but it's probably only part of the problem, the main problem is probably underground where the roots are chocking my clems and steeling their water. Why would anyone plant norway maples 3 feet from their property line is beyong me. In the back, those neighbors have overgrown blackberry bushes and suckering poplar trees that are intruding underground in my gardens.

Great pictures! I have Lasurstern and Perl d Azur and they are both great clems. I saw Lasurstern growing at a nursery years ago; it must have been in a partial shade area and the purple was so dark and rich looking. I haven't been able to replicate that color but it still is a beauty! Thanks for showing us your lovely garden.

RE: clematis garden pics

Had to see what all the fuss was about and now I'm glad I did. Gorgeous gardens, stunning color, must be like walking through heaven.

 o
RE: clematis garden pics

I am speechless. This is just stunning. Where are you gardening, or did I miss it? I might move!

 o
RE: clematis garden pics

What do you feed those beauties? Give us a little advice here!

 o
RE: clematis garden pics

I use bonemeal and tomato fertilizer in the early spring and fall. Rarely do I fertilize in the summer. After the fall clean up I spread lots of compost to bed everything down for my zone 5 Ohio winter.
I look forward to sharing more pics of my garden in the future. Thank you for all the compliments.

RE: clematis garden pics

I'm interested in hearing how your Vyvyan Pennel does. and the pics of course. Your pics belong in a magazine somewhere.

 o
RE: clematis garden pics

Wowzie! I am going to use bone meal and tomato fertilizer too. Your clems are spectacular, thanks for sharing. I just put in 7 new ones and will put in two more on the weekend, brings me up to 30 clems, 4 are integrefolias and don't vine up. I just love all the variety available. Do you let neighbors come into your yard to enjoy the spendor? Hand out drool cloths if you do. Great "eye candy", thanks again for sharing.
Tina, also zone 5.

Thanks for sharing these photos! I love the way the different blues all go together, gradations of the same general color.

 o
RE: clematis garden pics

Wow,
What an awesome example of how Clematis are so great at taking a smaller yard and taking the bloom up off the ground and adding more vertical attractions. They make your fence look wonderful and add so much to the beautiful gardens in front. That's why I love them!! Also love the blue tones- my favorite gardening colours. What a beautiful yard. I'd love to spend time there! You must love it - it shows!

A word of warning on using bone meal. If you have dogs or live where there are skunks or other wild creatures they will dig up you clematis trying to get at the bone meal. I planted one and dug in some bone meal to feed it. When I came back to check on it, it was laying on the ground dead. Try mixing some garlic powder with it to disguise the smell.

Gorgeous yard, fellow Buckeye. I planted a dozen vines once, with bonemeal and came home the next day to find them all dug up. I think my dogs would have thought they were having a real treat if I mixed garlic with it - they loved garlic, too. I still use bonemeal; I just scratch in in the top now. No more dogs, but lots of visitng critters.

Thanks so much for sharing this is what we all want to have!

RE: clematis garden pics

I've never had a problem with bonemeal and critters. Gertie can attest to that.

 o
RE: clematis garden pics

I love Gertie! I miss my Bill (hound doggie) and Lucy (whippet). I think I'm going to get a short leg Jack Russel or two. The garden is better with a guard dog.

 o
RE: clematis garden pics

Thanks for posting the pictures -
How many years did it take to grow so large and beautiful?

 o
RE: clematis garden pics

Tomato Fertilizer in the fall and spring? The application of fertilizer in the fall doesn't cause you soft new growth late in the season?
Well, apparantely it doesn't seem to harm your clematis! Hmmm, might have to try that one.
