Clematis and Weeping White Spruce

I need help from those of you who know more than I do!

I currently grow 12 clematis varieties and have them growing on my deck and block wall. I want to expand and have some that grow up some of my trees. I have 3 Weeping White Spruce trees (Picea glauca 'Pendula') in my large south facing front bed. They have been in the ground a year and are around 8 feet tall.

Does anyone have experience growing clematis in this type of tree? I think a clematis growing in them would be beautiful but I am not sure how to go about doing this or if this would be a good tree to grow them in as I don't want to harm the tree.

I am also wondering if I should wait to let the trees get bigger or just grow a smaller variety in them..

Mixed inbetween these trees are some Kelsey Dogwood bushes, I also thought it would be nice to plant some clematis to let them ramble among the dogwoods and to give some summer color. Any Suggestions?

I would be careful with growing much on your Weeping White Spruce. Because a clematis can shade the evergreen it grows on it can leave some "holes" on the evergreen because of lack of sunlight. I do let a clematis grow 1 to 2 stems on my Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar just to give it a little color.

I have the same tree and many clematis. I actually have a clematis planted relatively near it (about 2' away), though it grows another direction. That's as close as I would put it, but I would choose a shorter variety without much bulk, perhaps an integrifolia or one of its hybrids (which don't climb and would need a bit of initial tying up).

Thank you for your suggestions, it is great to get help from others with more experience. It seems it would be best to leave the spruce alone. I am researching integrifolias that I can plant to ramble around them and through the dogwoods in the bed.
