Does anyone cover their clems for the winter with a rose cone etc? Will it hurt them? I planted 6 new ones this summer and cut them back like this forum instructed. They are nice and healthy and about one and one half feet tall.I want to do everything I can to help them through our winter. Should I cover them?

In our zone the clematis die back to the ground with a heavy frost. I put leaves on them for the winter.

Most Clematis are fully hardy to zone 4 and some to 3. I would not be too worried about them in zone 5.
