Best time to divide C. heracleifolia

Hello everyone,
I was given a small C.heracleifolia with lovely blue flowers last year, and this year it has grown to a very large size. I would like to divide it but am unable to find information as to the best time to do this, either spring or autumn. It is still blooming. I am in Canada Zone 5B. Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you all in advance

Rather than start a new thread, but I don't want to hijack yours, I was wondering myself if you can divide clematis and was just going to post and ask about that, when and how.

Sorry I don't know anything about yours.

The ones I would want to divide are Madame Julia Correvon and C. Rooguchi. C. Roo is way to thick now for where it is; I have two of those. C. Roo I can't really divide until spring because you're supposed to clear all the dead brush away from that to the ground after it all turns brown after the frost has killed it all. The others, and think most people, I leave until spring to prune.

Hope you don't mind my chiming in here.
